Explanations to Inspera student responses

After marking a response, graders can provide overall feedback in the explanations area. There are two options:

Explanations can be made available for students as overall feedback.
Explanations can be used as notes for marks moderation and for that purpose they won't be made available to students.

Notes:

Explanations is the first feedback that students receive when the test/exam results are released to them.
While explanations provide overall feedback to a student response, annotations provide in-text feedback. Page notes also provide overall feedback, but students need to navigate to each question to view the feedback for each response while explanations are visible when results are released to students.
The explanations functionality needs to be enabled in Deliver if explanations are to be made available to students.

Add Explanations

Click on the Explanations button on the workspaces menu.
Select the required student.
Select the required question.
Enter your comment/explanation.
Click on the Save button.

Note: Marks must be confirmed before the Explanations can be made available for students. If not, the Explanations will remain available only for the planners and graders of the test/exam.

Optionally, click on the Continue editing button to make amendments to the Explanation.

Note: The Send button should not be clicked on at this point and should be completed by the Planner in the assessment's settings in Deliver. Refer to the Release Explanation to students section for more information.

Select the student number from the ID drop-down menu or click on the up arrow or down arrow to navigate to the previous or next student respectively to continue adding Explanations and repeat Steps 3 and 4.

Additional Explanation settings

Record an Explanation

Click on the Record button.

Note: The recording will start immediately and the lines will move to indicate the sound being recorded.

The following buttons are discussed from left to right and do not need to be completed in order to finalise the recording:
1. When feedback has finished recording, click on the Save button.
2. Optionally, click on the Pause button to pause the recording. Then click on Resume recording button to continue the recording.
3. Optionally, click on the Restart recording button to restart the recording.
4. Optionally, click on the Cancel button to stop recording.

Optionally, enter the title in the Feedback to <student number> textbox.
Click on the Save button.

Note: The recording itself cannot be edit after it has been saved, and will need to be deleted and re-recorded again.

Delete a Recorded Explanation

Click on the bin icon.

Warning: No confirmation option appears prior to deletion.

Attach a file

Click on the Attach file button.

Select the appropriate file from your harddrive.
Click on the Open button.
Optionally, click on the document file link to download the file.

Add and insert Question private notes

Note: Question private notes are not visible to the student unless they are added to the student's Explanation.

Enter the private notes into the Question private notes textbox.

Tip: If planning on releasing Question private notes to the student, editing is recommended.

Click on the Insert private notes button.
Delete any additional sections as necessary as other Question private notes without feedback might appear.

Release Explanations for students

Warning: Explanations cannot be recalled if sent by mistake.

Note: Only Planners are able to send explanations.

Note: Marks need to be Confirmed before Explanations can be released. For more information, refer to the Confirm grades guide.

Click on Deliver.
Optionally, enter the course code etc in the Search textbox.
Click on the required assessment.

Click on Ready in the Explanations section.

Note: If there are any Explanations in Draft, the option Mark as ready in the Grade tab needs to be selected before the they can be bulk-released to students.

Check the checkbox to select all students or check the checkbox for the appropriate students.
Click on Send explanation.
