Course sites and Course Profiles availability
Please ensure Learn.UQ (Blackboard) course site(s) and course profile(s) are made available to students at least one week before your first teaching activity, as outlined on the Course Design - Policy site. Course sites must contain a welcome message as a minimum requirement. The remaining online course requirements should be met by the first teaching activity.
Microsoft Teams site created for each Course
A Microsoft Teams site is now automatically created for each Learn.UQ course site. Activation of each course Teams site is at the discretion of the Course Coordinator. Check out the Teams for Teaching and Learning guide.

Managing student use of Microsoft Teams
Now that staff and students are together on Teams we encourage you to clearly outline appropriate communication channels for your course. For instance, students may try to contact teaching staff on Teams chat even if you don’t have a Teams site for your course. If you are not using Teams yet, unread messages will convert to emails after one hour. You may also consider setting a Teams specific out-of-office message letting students know your preferred course communication channels.

Transition to Kaltura to EchoVideo complete – final reminders
Following the UQ Technology Master Plan decision to retire Kaltura, all Kaltura videos have been successfully migrated to Echo360 and re-embedded in Learn.UQ courses. The EchoVideo Deep Linking tool will need to be used for embedding new videos in Learn.UQ and student video submissions.
If videos appear to be missing from your course content, please email help@elearning.edu.au to lodge a job with eLearning Helpdesk team.

Publishing Zoom cloud recordings to Echo360 for long-term student access
To ensure long-term access for students, please publish your Zoom cloud recordings to Echo360. Without publishing in Echo360, Zoom cloud recordings will be deleted after 12 months. By setting them to automatically save into Echo360, they will be stored for a much longer duration.
eLearning Adviser consultations
You can book an eLearning Adviser consultation through Microsoft Bookings. eLearning Advisers have expertise in teaching and learning technology and can help you select and configure learning technologies for your course(s). The consultation is online via Teams so please install Microsoft Teams to your device.

For personalised suggestions on how to improve your Learn.UQ (Blackboard) course site, complete the online self-assessment tool and review the course design exemplar site (UQ login required) which provides a model for structuring your course for easy navigation for students.

As we begin another semester, you should take a moment to review the Getting started with Learn.UQ guide which provides information about eLearning tools, support, ordering, and adding content to course(s). New staff should complete the Learn.UQ Basics online workshop, or book a consultation with an eLearning advisor.

Get to know your students
Course Insights, UQ's course-level learning analytics dashboard, is available to all Course Coordinators via Learn.UQ. Review student demographic information this week through the enrolment section to help inform your teaching strategies.
Course Coordinators can also access student headshots through my.UQ and generate a PDF document to familiarise themselves with student faces prior to classes.
Artificial Intelligence – Digital Essentials module
The Artificial Intelligence module (within the Digital Essentials series) introduces students to the different types of AI, the implications of AI to society and what AI research is being done at UQ. The module is embedded into courses to make it more accessible for students.

Completing this form enables us to plan support across ITaLI, the eLearning helpdesk, the Library, and Examinations to improve the quality of support for you and your students.
Please note: while Inspera is now available for use in all UQ courses, very large class sizes (over 500 students) wishing to use Inspera for on-campus examinations require confirmation.

Free online Academic English courses for UQ students
UQ students can now access FREE online English courses to enhance their academic writing skills. "How to Write an Essay" and "How to Write a Thesis" are available for all students and have already been taken by over 1,929 UQ students and 53,014 learners globally. Teaching linguistically diverse students
is a 90-minute online professional development course for all UQ Teaching Staff available on the UQ Extend platform via Workday. The course covers Linguistic diversity at UQ, English proficiency gaps, practical ways to refine instruction, assessment and feedback, ways to improve clarity and scaffolding, the power of examples and learning through multiple modes of delivery.
