15. Create a Pass/Fail column

    Create Pass/Fail grading schema (YouTube 2m 10s)

    For a hurdle assessment, a Pass/Fail column is usually needed. There are two steps involved: (1) create a Pass/Fail grading schema and (2)create a  column. If you have a number of hurdles you can add up multiple columns and to show students either Pass or Fail in their My Grades.

    Task to complete: 

    Creating a Pass/Fail Grading Schema

    1. From the Control Panel, select Grade Centre > Full Grade Centre
    2. Select Marking Schemas from the Manage drop-down menu
    3. Click on the Create Marking Schema button 
    4. Enter Pass/Fail in the Name textbox
    5. Under SCHEMA MAPPING:
      • Marks Scored Between: 50% and 100% Will Equal = Pass
      • Marks Scored Between: 0 and Less than 50%: Will Equal = Fail
      • Marks Manually Entered as Pass: Will Calculate as 50%
      • Marks Manually Entered as Fail: Will Calculate as 49%

    Creating a Column

    1. From the Control Panel, select Grade Centre > Full Grade Centre
    2. Click on the Create Column button
    3. Enter Seminar in the Column Name textbox
    4. Select Score from the Primary Display drop-down menu
    5. Enter in Points Possible textbox
    6. Under Options:
      • select the Yes radio button for the setting Include this column in Grade Centre calculations (if you want to add it up)
      • select the No radio button for the setting Show this column to students
      • select the No radio button for the setting Show statistics (average and median) for this column to Students in My Grades
    7. Click on the Submit button
    8. From the Control Panel, select Grade Centre > Full Grade Centre
    9. Enter 0 or 1 for all students in the Pass/Fail column.
