Create a Mark Schema (1-7 grades) (Ultra)

Why would I create a mark schema (1-7 grades)?

A Mark Schema displays a grade such as (1–7), (F, P, C, D, HD), (P, N) or (A–E) based on percentage ranges. For example, if a student scores 88% in a particular schema, a 7 would be displayed. Ultra courses already contain a number of mark schema's for various School's across the University

Note: Schools can request that their mark schema to be added to the Ultra template. i.e. The mark schema would already be set up in all courses and an option available for use in Gradebook columns. Refer to the Request a School Mark Schema instructions below.

Create a Mark schema (1 - 7 grades)

Select Gradebook from the navigation bar.
Select Marks from the Gradebook navigation bar.
Click on the Settings button to access Gradebook Settings menu.
Select Manage Mark Schemas under Mark Schemas.
Click on the Add mark schema button.
Click on the Enter name textbox, enter a meaningful name for the mark schema. e.g. School of Music.
Click on the Add button.
Click on the Add Mark below (+) button to add additional rows.
Tip: Generally you will need to add an additional 6 rows to give you 8 rows in total.
Click on the Grade Name textbox and enter the mark starting with 7 - 1, the last mark entered should be an X (represents no marks).
Click on the From textbox and enter the lower boundary for each mark. e.g. 75% and less than 85% for a 6
Tip: This should match what is listed in the Assessment section of your Course Profile.
Click on the Save button.

Edit a mark schema (1 - 7 grades)

Select Gradebook from the navigation bar.
Select Marks from the Gradebook navigation bar.
Click on the Settings button to access Gradebook Settings menu.
Select Manage Mark Schemas under Mark Schemas.
Click on the desired Mark schema.
Click on the Mark schema name to edit the schema name.
Click on the mark in the Mark Name column to edit the mark.
Click on the mark range in the Mark Range column to edit the mark range.
Click on the Save button.

Copy a mark schema

Select Gradebook from the navigation bar.
Select Marks from the Gradebook navigation bar.
Click on the Settings button to access Gradebook Settings menu.
Select Manage Mark Schemas under Mark Schemas.
Click on the desired Mark schema.
Click on the Copy button.
Click on the Enter name textbox, change the name for the mark schema. e.g. School of Music.
Click on the Copy button.

Use a mark schema

Request a School Mark Schema

Schools can request that their mark schema to be added to the Ultra course template. i.e. The mark schema would be already set up in all courses and an option available for Gradebook columns.

Note: The mark schema request must be submitted 6 months before the start of the semester in which the school plans to use the schema. Course stubs based on the Blackboard template are created 6 months in advance.

Seek approval from your head of school to have the school grading schema added to the Blackboard template.
Log a job with help@elearning.uq.edu.au with the subject line [your school] school grade schema template i.e. Business school mark schema template.
Include with the job a screenshot of the required mark schema i.e.
Note: Ensure you factor into the mark schema whether results are rounded up.
eLearning Support will contact your head of school to confirm approval for the grading schema.
