Overall Gradebook Mark (Ultra)

1.  Select Gradebook from the navigation bar.
   Tip: The default view is Grid view, if you are in List view, please click on the Grid view (4 squares) button.
2. Click on the Overall mark column heading.
   Note: If your course doesn't have an Overall mark column or it has been deleted, refer to the Set up the overall mark (new course) section below.
   
3. Steps 4 - 6 have all ready been pre-configured as part of the course template and should just be checked to confirm they are unchanged.
4. Weighted has been selected as the Calculation Type.
5. The Calculate marks based on points earned out of total marked points checkbox is unchecked.
   Warning: this setting is unchecked so that all required assessments are included in the grade calculation and assumes that if a task does not have a mark recorded it is treated as though the student has received a mark of zero (0) for that task.
6. The Show to students checkbox is unchecked.
   Warning: The show to students checkbox controls the visibility of the overall mark to students and needs to be hidden from students until the official release of results.
7. Select your desired UQ Grading schema from the Select how the overall mark is displayed drop-down box. e.g. Law School Mark Schema.
   Tip: For instructions on creating a Grade schema, refer to the Create a Mark Schema (1-7 grades) guide.
   
    
8. Confirm all categories have been excluded.
   Tip: The Exclude category (circle with diagonal line) button will be purple and the percentage will read zero (0) when it is excluded.
9. Confirm Total percentage has been unlinked from the Calculations category.
   Tip: Click on the down arrow next to the Category to expand. Calculations contains any calculated columns that you may have created in your Gradebook. e.g. Total percentage column.
10. The Weight percent for item textbox, should read 100%.
    Note: This has been pre-configured in the course template
11. Click on the Save button.
12. Click on the Close (X) button.
    
     
13. The Overall mark will be displayed with the UQ grade.
    

Note: The setup of the Overall mark assumes that he Total percentage column will be used for the calculation. For instructions on setting up the Total Percentage column, refer to the Total Percentage column guide.

2. Click on the Settings button to access Gradebook Settings menu.
   
    
3. Scroll down and click on the Set up overall mark button.
   
    
4. Select the Weighted radio button.
5. Click on the Next button.
   
6. Uncheck the Calculate marks based on points earned out of total marked points checkbox.
   Warning: this setting is unchecked so that all required assessments are included in the grade calculation and assumes that if a task does not have a mark recorded it is treated as though the student has received a mark of zero (0) for that task.
7. Select your desired UQ Grading schema from the Select how the overall mark is displayed drop-down box. e.g. Law School Mark Schema.
   Tip: For instructions on creating a Grade schema, refer to the Create a Mark Schema (1-7 grades) guide.
8. Uncheck the Show to students checkbox.
   
    
9. Click on the Exclude category (circle with diagonal line) button for all categories.
   
    
10. Expand the Calculations category.
    Tip: Click on the down arrow next to the Calculations to expand.
    
     
11. Click on the Unlink (Link icon with diagonal line) button to add the Total percentage column to the Overall Mark.
    
     
12. The percentage will be set to 100% automatically.
13. Click on the Save button.
    
     
14. Click on the Close (X) button.
    
     
15. Overall mark column will be displayed.
    

The Overall Mark column allows Course Coordinator's to apply overrides if required. The list of available overrides that are included as part of the Ultra template are as follows:

* Note that these overrides will be added to the course template from Semester 2, 2026. They can manually be added to courses, for further information refer to the Gradebook settings guide.

Applying an Overall Mark Override.

1. Select Gradebook from the navigation bar.
   Tip: The default view is Grid view, if you are in List view, please click on the Grid view (4 squares) button.
2. Click on the Grade pill.
   
    
3. Select desired override from the drop-down list.
   
    
4. The grade pill will change to a grey colour and display the override notation.
