Teaching Continuity - Technology Checklist

Tutorials and seminars can be delivered using Zoom, with active learning activities facilitated using polls or reactions. Breakout rooms are available for small group discussions. 

Alternatively some activities can be replicated asynchronously online using Blackboard Discussion boards or PadletUQ to support discussion and collaboration with in-class quizzes replaced with Blackboard tests.

Generally online assessment submission, and marking, is already facilitated using UQ supported tools. The Assessment tools guide provides advice on options for a variety of assessment types including handwritten assignments.

Face to face assessment such as oral presentations can be converted to student video assignments. Students typically record with their phone or use Zoom to generate their video.

Oral examinations (Viva) can also be conducted on Zoom using the waiting room feature to admit students one at a time.

Face to face exams can be converted to a 'take home' online exam, using the Blackboard Test tool, or as a written assignment submitted back into Turnitin or Blackboard (See Assessment tools). Note that Blackboard tests also allow long form written answers along with multiple choice. Tests can also be controlled to limit availability, include timing and use questions pools to improve academic integrity. 

Oral examinations (Viva) can also be conducted on Zoom using the waiting room feature to admit students one at a time. Alternatively they could be converted to a video assignment.

Many UQ systems are already directly accessible off-campus. For full access to all systems use the UQ VPN (virtual private network). The VPN acts as a ‘secure tunnel’ from your computer to the UQ network.

Course team meetings can be held on Zoom. You may also set up a Zoom chat group that allows instant messaging, file sharing, screen shots and optionally with video.  

Blackboard Discussion Boards can be used to support students in communicating with teaching staff and each other. Providing a tutor at specific times throughout the week to respond to student queries is recommended. Another alternative is PadletUQ that can also be used for collaborative online activities.

Zoom meetings can be used to replace face to face consultations times with the waiting room feature used to admit students one at time.
