7. Announcements

Announcements is an area in which you can post information for students in your course. All announcements sent are kept as a communication record in your course. You can include course links in your announcements that direct students to assessment items, resources, folders and tools.

You will also need a communication policy that clearly explains to students how you will communicate with them and that they are responsible for regularly checking for new announcements in their email or in the course.

Task to complete

Edit the template welcome message

  1. From the Course Menu, select Announcements.
  2. Click on the down arrow next to the welcome announcement template.
  3. Select Edit from the drop-down list.
  4. Edit the template text in the Message textbox.
  5. Click on the Submit button.

Create an announcement

    1. From the Course Menu, select Announcements.
    2. Click on the Create Announcement button.
    3. Enter "Welcome to TECH1010" in the Subject textbox.
    4. Enter a welcome message in the Message textbox.
    5. For Duration, select Not Date Restricted.
    6. For Email Announcement, check the Send a copy of this announcement immediately checkbox.
    7. Located to the right of Location, click on the Browse button.
    8. Select the Week 1 folder within Learning Resources to create a direct course link to this page.
    9. Click on the Submit button.
    10. Click and drag the announcement to the top of the page.
