What is the Group tool?

The Groups tool in Learn.UQ allows you to organise students into groups and assign the groups tools such as email, discussion boards, blogs, journals, wikis, file exchange area and task lists. The Group tool also allows you to assign tools, as well as Blackboard assignments, to SI-net groups.

Why would I use the Groups tool?

To assign students to groups to facilitate group tasks and assessment.

Are groups automatically created?

The following Allocate+ groups are automatically created in Blackboard prior to the start of semester:

  • Practical
  • Seminar
  • Tutorial
  • Contact
  • Clinical Based Learning
  • Clinical Coaching
  • Exam
  • Placement
  • Workshop

Loading too many groups into Blackboard can can make it difficult and time consuming for teaching staff to select groups from very long lists,  so not all are synced unless requested. Groups currently not synced include:

  • Excursion
  • Fieldwork
  • IT Computing
  • Lecture
  • Peer assisted study session
  • Problem based learning
  • Studio
  • Clinical Hours
