Polling in a Zoom meeting (Original)
Polling question types
Polling can be used as an active learning tool within Zoom for student engagement. Staff can poll students to check their understanding or gather views on a particular topic with up to 10 possible answer options.

Creating a poll
- Go to https://uqz.zoom.us.
- Click on the Sign in button.
- Enter your UQ username and password.
- Click on the LOGIN button.
- Select the Meetings tab from the menu.
- Click on the title of the required meeting.
- Click on the Add button to create a new poll.
- Enter a title for the question set in the title textbox.
- Optionally, check the Anonymous checkbox if you want anonymised student responses.
- Enter your question in the question textbox.
- Select either the Single Choice or Multiple Choice radio button.
- Enter at least two possible answers in the answer textboxes.
- Optionally, click on the + Add a Question link to add another question to the current set.
- Click on the Save button when complete.
Launching a poll
- After creating your poll (refer to the Creating a poll for step by step instructions), access your Zoom meeting via the link (e.g. https://uqz.zoom.us/j/1234567).
- Click on the Polls button.
- Click on the Launch Polling button to launch your poll.
- Students will then be presented with the following window where they can submit their answer to the question(s).
Note: Only participants are able to respond to polling questions. Co-hosts and hosts will only be able to launch and share polling results.
- Click on the End Polling button once you have the desired response rate (i.e. 100% voted).
Sharing poll results
- Click on the Share Results button to share the polling results with students.
- Students will then be presented with the following window where they can view the poll results.
- Click on the Stop Share Results button to stop sharing results with students.
Re-launching a poll
- Optionally, click on the Re-launch Polling button to relaunch the question so students can vote again.
- Click on the Continue button to confirm the re-launch.
Note: Re-launching a poll will clear the existing poll results.
Multiple question sets
- If you have created more than one question set, click on the down arrow to select the next set.
- You can then launch the next question set for students.
View polling results report
You can download a report of the poll results after the meeting. If you scheduled the Zoom meeting via Learn.UQ, the report will list the students' names and email addresses. If the poll was anonymous, student names and email addresses will appear as "anonymous".
Note: If the meeting was not scheduled through Learn.UQ, it will display the poll results, but list the users as "Guest" if they didn't sign in with their UQ account.
- Go to https://uqz.zoom.us.
- Select Account Management > Reports from the side menu.
- Select Meeting from the options.
- Select the Poll Report radio button for Report Type.
- Click on the calendar icon for From and select the date you want to generate the report from.
- Click on the calendar icon for To and select the date you want to generate the report to.
Note: The maximum report duration is one month.
- Click the Search button.
- Click on Generate for the meeting you want to generate a poll report.
- Click on the Download button to download the poll report as a CSV file.
Reusing a poll
