Topics in Flipgrid are the activities you create for your students to participate. You can have the option to add different types of materials or media content to your topic. After a topic is created, there are a numer of ways that you can share it to your students.
Create a topic
- Access your Flipgrid account.
Note: there are two ways to access your Flipgrid account:
- through the Flipgrid website, or
- through my.UQ dashboard (when you have already created your Flipgrid account)
- Click on the +Topic button.
- Enter:
- The name of the activity in the Title textbox.
Note: the naming convention should be Course Code - Activity. If this topic is part of the course assessment, the title should be the same as specified in the ECP.
- The instruction in the Description textbox.
Note: the instruction should include the specific requirements such as what students do, how they do it, and for how long.
Tip: you can use the text editor to edit your instruction to make clearer and more attractive to the students.
- Select the length of the video from the Recording time drop-down menu.
- Click on the Settings button.
- Check the settings of the activity.
Note: All settings have been selected by default. You can turn these off as required and tick the Save changes to my default settings checkbox to save your own settings for future topics.
- Click on the Post topic button.
- The topic you created is ready. Click on the close (X) or the All Set! button.
The topic you created will be displayed.
Share a topic
There are a number of ways you can share a topic to your students.
- Share link to Learn.UQ course,
- Create and share QR code to Learn.UQ course,
- Share in Google Classroom, MS Teams, Remind,
- Post in Twitter, and
- Embed in Learn.UQ course.
Share link
- Click on the Copy link or the share button.
- Access your Learn.UQ course site.
- Select Learning Resources.
- Select the relevant week, e.g. Week 1
- Click on the Build content button.
- Select Web Link from the drop-down menu
- Enter the activity name in the Name textbox.
- Paste the topic link on to the URL textbox.
- Enter instruction in the Description textbox.
- Select Yes to open the link in new window.
- Click on the Submit button.
Students will be able to access the link to the Flipgrid activity in the Learning Resource - Week 1.
Create a QR code
- Click on the create a QR code icon.
- Click on the Download button to save the QR code to your device.
- Access your Learn.UQ course site.
- Select Learning Resources or Assessment if it is an assessed task.
- Select the relevant week, e.g. Week 1
- Click on the Build content button.
- Select Item from the drop-down menu
- Enter the name of the activity in the Name textbox.
- Enter a brief instruction to students, e.g., Please join the Flipgrid activity via this QR code.
- Click on the add (+) icon.
- Select Insert Local File from the Common Tools list.
- Select the required QR code file from your device.
- Click on the Open button.
- Click on the Submit button.
Students will be able to access the Flipgrid activity via the QR code in the Learning Resource - Week 1.
Share in Google Classroom, MS Teams, Remind
- Select the required channel, e.g., MS Teams.
- Select Share to person, group, or channel option.
- Type the name of your course channel to search.
- Click on your group channel.
- Click on the Share button.
- Click on the Close button.
The topic will be shared as a post in the MS Teams channel.
Embed in your Learn.UQ course
- Select the embed code (</>) icon.
- Access your Learn.UQ course site.
- Select Learning Resources.
- Select the relevant week, e.g. Week 1
- Click on the Build content button.
- Select Item from the drop-down menu
- Enter the name of the activity in the Name textbox.
- Click on the code (<>) icon.
- Paste the code in the Source code area.
- Click on the Save button.
- Click on the Submit button.
The activity will be embeded as an activity in the Learning Resource - Week 1 for students to start adding their responses to the activity.
