Flip topic settings (Original)
After creating a topic, you have a few options to work with your topic, including:
- Edit topic
- Hide topic
- Duplicate topic
- Move topic
- Export data
- Record a response
- Submit to Discovery
Edit a topic
Note: The guide provides all edit options, please select the relevant ones you need.
Click on the ellipsis (...) icon.
Select Edit topic from the drop-down menu.
In the Edit topic area click on the Settings button to view more options.
- An Edit topic settings page will be displayed.
Click on Topic Status and select the required status Active, View Only or Hidden from the drop-down list.
Click on the Launch Date or End Date and select the dates as required.
Turn on Moderate videos and comments to activate approval for each response and comments for your topic.
Note:
- If you want students to view each other videos, this radio button should be OFF
- If you don't want students to view each other videos, this radio button should be ON
Click on Recording time and select the time from the drop-down list.
Click on Comments and select from the drop-down list.
Click on Closed Captions and select from the drop-down list.
- Click on Response to turn on and off the slide buttons for more options.
Click on Camera to turn on and off the slide buttons for more options.
Turn on Guest password (optional) for families and guests to join the topic.
Enter a Guest password in the textbox.
Optionally, check Save changes to my default settings on the checkbox.
Click on Save changes button.
You will be redirected to your topic homepage.
Export a topic data
When a topic (task) is completed, you have the option to export the topic data to have some analytics on student engagement and performance.
- To export a topic data, click on the ellipsis (...) icon.
- Select the Export Data option from the drop-down list.
- Click on the Save button to save the response data as a CSV file in your computer.
Record a sample response
- To record a response, click on the ellipsis (...) icon.
- Select the Record a response option from the drop-down list.
Note: It is recommended to record a first response as an example and remind your students to add their responses.

Submit a topic to Discovery
Discovery is Flip library to which educators can share their topics to all Flip members around the world. If you think the topics you created will be useful to a community, i.e. higher education, you can share it to this library.
Note that you are only sharing the topics’ content but not your student responses to the topic.
- To submit your topic to Discovery, click on the ellipsis (...) icon.
- Select the Submit to Discovery option from the drop-down list.
- A Submit to Discovery page will be displayed.
- Select a Community best suited for this topic. (e.g. Higher Education).
- Select a Subject best suited for this Topic. (e.g. Language Learning).
- Enter your Integration Notes in the textbox (i.e. tips on how educators should use this topic in their class)
- Enter or change the Title of your topic.
- Enter a Description to your topic.
- Add a Topic media to your topic. You can change the topic media at this step.
- Click on the Submit to Discovery button.
- A Thank You message will be displayed. Note that your topic will be reviewed by the Flip team and once it passed the review, it will be available in Discovery.
- Click on Go to My Library to review the topics you have shared to the Discovery library.
- A Discovery page will be displayed in which you can Search topics, see My collections and My Submitted Topics.
Search for a topic in Discovery
- You can explore topics created by the Flipgrid community by enter a Search topic to the search box.
Create your own topic collection
You can create your own collection to save and organise your favourite topics.
- Click on +Collection button to create a new Collection.
- Enter a Collection name in the name text box.
- Click on the Add button.
Submit a new topic to Discovery
- To Submit another topic, click on the Submit a topic button.
Delete a submitted topic
- To delete a submitted topic, click on the rubbish bin icon.
- Tick on the checkbox I want to remove this Topic from Discovery.
- Click on the Remove button.
View topic analytics
- From the Topic homepage, click onthe Member view button.
- A new tab will be displayed.
