Congratulations to the Australian Awards for University Teaching recipients

Congratulations to the 6 exceptional UQ teachers who were recently recognised at the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT). Associate Professor Roma Forbes was named Teacher of the Year, Professor Jason Lodge and Associate Professor Lynda Shevellar received Awards for Teaching Excellence, and Professor Lisa Hall, Dr Adriana Penman and Dr Chamith Wijenayake were recognised with Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. UQ remains Australia's most awarded university in the history of the AAUTs, having brought home a total of 179 awards.

New Turnitin Similarity Report and Marking Tools

Ultra Focus – Conversations 

Ultra has many ways for you to interact with students through your course site. One option is ‘Conversations’, which is a tool that allows staff and students to discuss content items and assessment. New courses available in Student Training Report 

The Student Training Report tool within Blackboard courses now includes students' completion of the Core Cultural modules 1-10, as well as UQ Respect.

2026 AI Student Survey now open 

All undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students have received an email invitation to participate in the AI Student Survey. The survey explores university students’ experiences with Generative AI in education. You can now share the survey with your students. Their insights will help improve university courses, support services and the overall experience for students.

Whiteboard camera functionality has been added to some existing audiovisual teaching spaces to display written content on video projectors, Echo recordings, and Zoom. These rooms are:

Online lectures for public holidays

Pre-recording a lecture is a great way to replace a lecture scheduled on a public holiday. EchoVideo allows staff to record online lectures that include screen recordings, narration, and webcam video. For step-by-step instructions on how to record your video, refer to Desktop Recording guide. For assistance with using EchoVideo to pre-record a lecture, please book a personal consultation with an eLearning Adviser.

Course Insights – How engaged are your students? 

Course Insights, UQ’s own course-level learning analytics dashboard is available to all Course Coordinators via Learn.UQ (staff login required). The Engagement section offers insights into student engagement in Learn.UQ and UQ Extend, helping identify disengaged students to contact prior to the census date. Additionally, the Assessment section enables staff to monitor students’ academic performance and the Course Insights filter can identify students that may need extra support.

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open for the 2026 Teaching Innovation Grants. Join the upcoming Pitch Your Idea session to receive expert guidance before submitting an EOI. You’ll have the opportunity to refine your concept, test its alignment to the grant categories and receive construction feedback in a supportive environment. What's Working? AI Assessment Transformation in Practice I 6 May 2026, 10–11am

Join presenters Dr Victoria Bladen, Lecturer, School of Communication and Arts and Kellie Ashley, Outreach Librarian, Faculty of Science for a collaborative conversation that will explore how UQ Academics are changing their assessment practices in response to AI. Academics will share current examples of assessment transformation in practice and the challenges and opportunities they have encountered along the way.

Learning Designers

Learning Designers provide pedagogical support to academics in curriculum and assessment design, collaborating on learning experiences and activities, and integration of evidence-informed teaching and learning practices.

Educational Media Production

The ITaLI Educational Media Production Team works closely with academics and Learning Designers to produce educational videos, audio content, graphics and animations that support teaching and learning initiatives across UQ. If you have a project that could benefit from video, animation or graphic design, you are invited to submit an Expression of Interest.
