Microsoft Course Teams update: enhanced collaboration
Microsoft Course Teams now supports up to 1,000 public and private channels providing greater flexibility for large courses. All assessment project groups can be provided a private channel for collaborations. Students can also schedule project group meetings directly within channels.

Improve PDF accessibility in Learn.UQ courses
New functionality is now available in all Learn.UQ (Blackboard) courses that will make improving PDF accessibility faster and easier. Previously, remediating untagged PDF files required staff to download the original file, address accessibility issues using external software, and finally upload the revised version back into Learn.UQ. Course accessibility tools can now identify untagged PDFs and automatically generate tags for staff to review and approve all within Learn.UQ, significantly streamlining the remediation process.
Course accessibility tools case study – Dr Paul Vrbik
Learn how Dr Paul Vrbik used course accessibility tools (Blackboard Ally) to identify a range of accessibility issues with PDF files exported from LaTeX in his Learn.UQ (Blackboard) course. Paul shares the practical steps he took to address these challenges and his advice for colleagues who may be considering similar improvements within their own course.
Turnitin marking by groups
Markers can now filter Turnitin submission lists by Learn.UQ (Blackboard) groups, including Allocate+ group sets. This feature makes it easier to review and mark submissions by specific course groups, such as tutorials, practical classes, or other sections.
Turnitin audio and video feedback
Audio feedback has returned to Turnitin and a new video feedback option has been added. Teaching staff can provide up to 5 minutes of personalised audio or video feedback within Feedback Studio, offering an additional way to connect with students and enhance their feedback experience.
The new feature also includes automatically generated captions and transcripts, supporting accessibility and offering students a more flexible way to review feedback.
Exam resources for students
To prepare your students for exams, course coordinators are encouraged to share exam resources, including AskUs, practice exams and instructional guides on Inspera assessment.
2026 Teaching Innovation Grant recipients announced
Eighteen Teaching Innovation Grant (TIG) projects have received funding in 2026. From developing student’s critical thinking skills in the age of AI to creating safer placement experiences and building more inclusive classrooms, this year's TIGs will test new ideas that improve teaching, learning and the student experience at UQ.

Did you know you can request a colleague observe your teaching to provide collegial, developmental feedback to support and enhance your practice through the College of Peer Observers? The College of Peer Observers is comprised of academics who have been recognised for their contributions to enhancing teaching and learning at UQ. You can request an observation by emailing itali@uq.edu.au with the details of your teaching activity, including the course, session type, and preferred observation date.

AI in Practice: Lunchtime Insights Series I 15 September 2026, 12–12:30pm
Join Liz Hargans-Mackaway at the next AI in Practice: Lunchtime Insights Series session for a presentation on being AI-first when navigating transitions. This fortnightly, 30-minute online series features presentations across AI in teaching, research and productivity, communication and operational enhancements. Sessions also include time for candid discussion with presenters and attendees.
2026 UQ Academic Language Forum I 25 September 2026
Join colleagues from across UQ at the 2026 Academic Language Forum on Friday 25 September. The forum will explore the changing face of Academic Language and Literacies in the age of AI. Highlights include a keynote by Associate Professor Ben Fenton-Smith (Griffith University) and a candid international student panel sharing insights into the contemporary student experience. The forum will also showcase innovative practice from across the University and provide an opportunity to connect with colleagues.
What’s Working? AI Assessment Transformation in Practice I 7 October 2026, 10–11am
Join presenters Dr Louise Ainscough and Dr Ryan Williams at the next What’s Working? AI Assessment Transformation in Practice session. Dr Ainscough’s session will explore how a long-form written assessment was redesigned in response to AI. Dr Williams presentation will outline a learning task that enables students to critically analyse the anatomy of conflict and social cohesion by using an empirically validated coding tool made accessible with the assistance of LLMs.

Learning Designers
Learning Designers provide pedagogical support to academics in curriculum and assessment design, collaborating on learning experiences and activities, and integration of evidence-informed teaching and learning practices.

Educational Media Production
The ITaLI Educational Media Production Team works closely with academics and Learning Designers to produce educational videos, audio content, graphics and animations that support teaching and learning initiatives across UQ. If you have a project that could benefit from video, animation or graphic design, you are invited to submit an Expression of Interest.
