Turnitin multipart assignment is now available
Turnitin has launched a new multJoin colleagues from across UQ at the 2026 Academic Language Forum on Friday 25 September. The forum will explore the changing face of Academic Language and Literacies in the age of AI. Highlights include a keynote by Associate Professor Ben Fenton-Smith (Griffith University) and a candid international student panel sharing insights into the contemporary student experience. The forum will also showcase innovative practice from across the University and provide an opportunity to connect with colleagues. ipart assignment type, available via the assignment picker. Teaching staff can create multiple connected assignment parts as one structured workflow, and build in checkpoints to support guidance, reflection, and revision throughout the writing process.

Set up your assessment and Gradebook in Ultra
Explore the Assessment tool guide for instructions on a range of centrally supported assessment tools, including information on their features and limitations, and recommendations for different use cases.
Set up your Total Percentage and Overall Mark columns in Gradebook early to streamline grade finalisation this semester. If you need help or advice, book a consultation with an eLearning Adviser.
View Ultra Gradebook by tutorial, seminar, and practical groups
The filter in Ultra Gradebook helps streamline the entry of marks and student submissions checks. You can filter students, groups, categories, assessment type and markable items. Follow the Gradebook filters guide for more information on how to apply the filter to Gradebook.
Control the release of results in Ultra – posting
During marking and mark moderation, you may not be ready for your students to see their results. The publication of results in Ultra is controlled by posting (not by hiding Gradebook columns, which may also hide assessment submission links).
Remember to set the feedback release date for Turnitin assignments to a future date, as Turnitin will automatically post results once that date has passed.

Convert files to native Ultra documents
Instead of uploading files to your Learn.UQ (Blackboard) course, consider converting them into a content block with a native Ultra document to create a more flexible and accessible learning experience.
Content within Ultra documents works seamlessly with Course Accessibility tools, helping automate accessibility improvements, while making content easier to update and maintain.
Converting will also transforms static files, like PDFs, into editable content, while still allowing students to generate alternative formats including PDF, ePub, HTML and Immersive Reader.
Video case study: Dr Jonathan Brazil – Microsoft Course Bookings
In a new video case study, Dr Jonathan Brazil shares how he used Microsoft Bookings for Courses to streamline the scheduling process for interactive oral presentations in his course and offers practical advice for staff looking to implement a similar approach.

Progress tracking
The Progress Tracking tool in Ultra assists students to track the course content or activities that they have engaged with. Students can manually check-off resources as complete, supporting their self-directed learning. Progress tracking also allows course coordinators to monitor student engagement with individual course resources and learning modules as a whole.

Requesting recordings of additional teaching activities
You can now request automatic recordings for all timetabled teaching activities, including seminars, tutorials and workshops. All classes delivered in centrally controlled teaching spaces with 20+ seats will be automatically recorded. Recordings will be made available in Echo360 via the lecture recordings link in the associated Learn.UQ course.

Call for presenters – Racing the Clock: Education’s Response to AI’s Rapid Rise
Expressions of interest (EOIs) to present at Racing the Clock: Education’s Response to AI’s Rapid Rise are now open! Educators, researchers, students and industry partners are invited to share their work at the conference under the theme ‘AI-Enabled Teaching and Learning Innovation’. The conference, held on 1 October, will explore how education can respond to AI with urgency and purpose. EOIs will close on Friday 21 August.

Educational Media Production
The ITaLI Educational Media Production Team works closely with academics and Learning Designers to produce educational videos, audio content, graphics and animations that support teaching and learning initiatives across UQ. If you have a project that could benefit from video, animation or graphic design, you are invited to submit an Expression of Interest.
