UQ Extend to Learn.UQ (Blackboard) conversion process (Ultra)

Overview

This guide outlines the recommended process for converting a UQ Extend course to Learn.UQ (Blackboard).

Note: There is no automated import path between these two platforms, therefore some parts of the conversion require a manual rebuild. 

Tip: This guide uses the terms 'conversion' and 'rebuild' deliberately. Content is reconstructed in Learn.UQ (Blackboard) using the UQ Extend course as a reference source, not transferred via a file export/import.

4. Conversion phase 1 – Scope & sort

Before beginning the conversion to Learn.UQ (Blackboard), review and document the UQ Extend course structure . 

  1. To export the UQ Extend course, you will need to access Studio mode.

  2. Click on Tools in the main menu and select Export from the dropdown.

  3. This creates a .tar.gz OLX archive. The file will be exported as course_export.tar.gz. For more information, refer to the Export a Course guide by edX.

Tip: Keep this as your source of truth — you can unzip and browse the raw HTML, XML, and assets. 

  1. Click on Content in the main menu and select Files & Uploads from the dropdown and download all course assets.

  2. Download all PDFs, images, and any SCORM packages to your local device or Microsoft SharePoint in a folder that it is easy to access.  

  3. Map the course structure. List every Section, Subsection, and Unit. Note the component types within each unit (V = video, T = text, P = problem, D = discussion).  For more information, see the Navigational and structural elements section of this guide.

Tip: A spreadsheet works well for this.  

  1. Identify content that has no direct equivalent in Learn.UQ (Blackboard) which will require a deliberate design decision. For more information, see the Platform feature comparison section of this guide.

Note: Flag these for review with the Course Coordinator or Learning Designer.
