Note: To use the Assignment marking tool on campus you must be logged into the UQ Internet Quota System. i.e. Enter any external website address into your browser, enter your user name and password and click continue.

Tip: Ensure students cannot view marks and feedback while marking is in progress. Hide the Grade Centre column and make the assignment link unavailable (refer Hide marks while marking is in progress guide).

Open assignments

  1. From the Control Panel select Grade Centre > Full Grade Centre.
  2. Submitted assignments will be displayed with a explanation mark icon.
  3. Click on the down arrow button next to the assignment column heading.
  4. Select Grade Attempts from the drop down list.

Tip: Select Grade anonymously instead if you do not want to view student names.

Note: If you wish to mark the assignment anonymously click on the Hide User Names button.

Note: The inline grading assignment tool supports Word (doc, docx), PowerPoint (ppt, pptx), Excel (xls, xlsx) and PDF documents. Text entered directly in the text editor can be viewed but you will not be able to use the inline grading tools to annotate it.

Note: In the blue section the number of upload attempts allowed for the assignment will be displayed. If the student has made more than one submission you can select an attempt to mark from a drop down list.

  1. Click on Assignment Details to view the assignment instructions and current class average and median.
  2. If a file other than Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF was submitted, click on the link to open the file.
  3. Optionally, click on the download button to download the file submitted by the student.
  4. Click expand arrow to view the feedback textbox.

Enter marks and feedback

  1. Enter the mark in the blue section.
  2. Enter in student feedback in the textbox.
  3. Optionally, click on the A button to open the textbox editor.
  4. Optionally, click on the Add Notes link to enter comments viewable only by staff.
  5. Click on the Submit button.

Note: The mark is automatically saved in the Grade Centre column and the next student’s assignment will be opened.

Students with multiple attempts

With students with multiple submission attempts only enter a mark and feedback for the correct submission.

Note: The submission attempt you are marking can be checked in the top left of the screen. You can also select the submission attempt from the drop down list in the blue section.

Warning: Students can view marking of all attempts. If you accidently mark the wrong attempt make sure you:

  1. Click on the pencil icon and override the current mark with the correct mark.
  2. Delete feedback you have entered into the incorrect attempt.
  3. Change the mark of the incorrect attempt to 0 (it cannot now be left blank).

Attach feedback files

If you have marked files in another program you may need to upload the marked assignment files. Note, there is no option for bulk upload of marked files, they all need to be attached separately.

  1. Click on the paper clip button.
  2. Click on the  Browse My Computer button and browse to and open the require file OR
  3. Click on the  Browse Course button and select the radio button of the required file.
