Note: To use the Assignment marking tool on campus you must be logged into the UQ Internet Quota System. i.e. Enter any external website address into your browser, enter your user name and password and click continue.

Tip: Ensure students cannot view marks and feedback while marking is in progress. Hide the Grade Centre column and make the assignment link unavailable (refer Hide marks while marking is in progress guide).

Open assignments

  1. From the Control Panel select Grade Centre > Full Grade Centre.
  2. Submitted assignments will be displayed with a explanation mark icon.
  3. Click on the down arrow button next to the assignment column heading.
  4. Select Grade Attempts from the drop down list.

Tip: Select Grade anonymously instead if you do not want to view student names.

Note: If you wish to mark the assignment anonymously click on the Hide User Names button.

Note: The inline grading assignment tool supports Word (doc, docx), PowerPoint (ppt, pptx), Excel (xls, xlsx) and PDF documents. Text entered directly in the text editor can be viewed but you will not be able to use the inline grading tools to annotate it.

Note: In the blue section the number of upload attempts allowed for the assignment will be displayed. If the student has made more than one submission you can select an attempt to mark from a drop down list.

  1. Click on Assignment Details to view the assignment instructions and current class average and median.
  2. If a file other than Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF was submitted, click on the link to open the file.
  3. Optionally, click on the download button to download the file submitted by the student.
  4. Click expand arrow to view the feedback textbox.​

Enter marks using rubric

  1. Click on the Rubric link to view the rubric in the Grading sidebar OR
  2. Click on the rubric button to view the rubric in a separate window.

Note: In the below example a Points rubric has been used.

  • Optionally, check the Show Descriptions to display the criteria descriptions.
  • Optionally, check the Show Feedback if you wish to give feedback for individual criteria.

For each criteria:

  1. Select the radio of the standard you wish to award.
  2. If a Points range rubric has been used select the mark you wish to award from the drop down list.
  3. Optionally (if the Show Feedback checkbox is selected), enter feedback on the student’s achievement for those criteria.

Overall feedback

Total

  • The marks are automatically totalled and shown as the Raw Total at the end of the screen.

Note: The Change the number of points out of X to textbox allows you to override the automatic total and enter another mark.

If you use this option and then change marks in the criteria section, the mark entered in the Change the number of points out of X to textbox does not automatically update.

  1. Enter overall feedback to the student on the assignment in the Feedback textbox
  2. Optionally, click on the Text editor button to open it in a new window.
  3. Click on the Save Rubric button.

Save mark

  1. The Raw Total from the rubric will automatically be entered in the Grade textbox in the blue section.
  2. Click on the Submit button.

Note: The next student’s assignment will be opened.

Note: You must save both this mark and the rubric. i.e. Save twice for each student.
