Merry Christmas!

This is the last eLearning Update for 2019. On behalf of everyone in the ITaLI eLearning Systems and Support team, we hope you have an enjoyable break, and we are looking forward to working with you in the new year. The next eLearning Update will be published on 2 January 2020.

Time-stamped video comments - Call for volunteers

The eLearning team is currently investigating new Kaltura functionality which allows staff to add time-stamped comments when marking video assignments. Please contact if you are interested in trialling this functionality in your Summer Semester course.

Course Insights co-design workshops

Course Insights is a learning analytics dashboard developed by the ITaLI Learning Analytics team for all UQ courses. As the dashboard is being actively developed at UQ, you have a unique opportunity to direct future enhancements by participating in a co-design workshop. Within the co-design workshop, you will work with members of the learning analytics team to brainstorm and prototype new visualisations and identify additional useful data sources. The co-design workshop will only take 1.5 hours of your time and lunch will be provided.

2020 eLearning workshops

eLearning workshops for 2020 will be published on the Staff Development / Teaching and Learning Technologies website as of 2 January 2020. These workshops will be advertised for registration in our 2 January eLearning update.

UQ ePortfolio system - Semester 2, 2020

The UQ ePortfolio system allows students to digitally showcase their work, helping them understand and communicate their employability. The system facilitates tracking student learning and development at course and program level, over time, as well as supporting collaborative, multimodal and reflective assessment practices.

We are currently engaging with program leads and course coordinators interested in using the ePortfolio system for the first time from the start of Semester 2, 2020. To request a meeting to discuss the potential of implementing the ePortfolio system in your course or program, go to the UQ ePortfolio tool page and submit a "Request to Meet" by 21 February, 2020.

Echo360 Personal Capture decommission

The desktop recording system, Echo360 Personal Capture, will be decommissioned by the vendor on 15 January 2020, however you will still be able to use the software until this date. We recommend Kaltura Capture as an alternative desktop recording option. For more information, refer to the Decommission of Echo360 Personal Capture project page.

eLearning Tips

iThenticate - Text matching for research papers

The iThenticate text matching system for researchers is available to all UQ staff. While iThenticate uses the same underlying technology and database as Turnitin, the functionality, user experience and reports are designed to meet the needs of researchers. iThenticate allows you to quickly upload, check and examine documents using a web-based interface. Researchers can share documents and collaborate in groups. iThenticate includes in-depth analytics to provide visibility of content submissions and levels of originality over time.

For step-by-step instructions, refer to the Getting started with iThenticate guide.

Cyber security

The cyber security website provides both general and UQ-specific information on cyber security. Find comprehensive, understandable content on how to recognise cyber security threats, protect yourself from these threats and stay cyber secure, as well as links to report cyber security incidents. For more information, please refer to the Cyber security at UQ webpage.
