Turnitin LTI 1.3 Integration Upgrade
What is happening?
UQ will be upgrading our Turnitin integration with Blackboard from "Basic" to LTI 1.3 (Learning Tool Interoperability 1.3) for Semester 2 2021. This upgrade will provide staff and students with access to new Turnitin features.
How was the upgrade initiated?
The upgrade was initiated due to a request from ITS to upgrade the Turnitin integration. Turnitin has also decided to phase out development work for our current integration version "Basic" and only provide fixes for security issues and bugs.
What are the new Turnitin features?
Due to the integration upgrade, a number of new Turnitin features will be made available to UQ staff and students:
- An updated assignment set up interface with improved labelling of settings (i.e. "Post Date" will be renamed "Feedback release date").
- An updated assignment inbox that includes information is more relevant and provides the ability to filter to see only student assignments that still need marking.
- Academic integrity flags for hidden text and replace characters will be displayed in the assignment inbox.
- The ability for teaching staff to submit or re-submit on behalf of students.
- An updated student assignment upload interface that is clearer and more initutive.
What new Turnitin features are planned?
Turnitin have indicated the following additional new features will be made available soon:
- Analytics to inform teaching staff about how students are interacting with an assignment and the feedback provided.
- Assignment template exclusion functionality that will allow teaching staff to remove text that matches across all submissions (i.e. Exam question papers could be excluded so only the students' answers are checked in the Similarity Report).
