Communicating with students in Ultra
Announcements can be used to communicate important information to all students in your course, while messages are a useful way to contact individual students or groups of students. The University has restricted student messaging, allowing students to only message course staff and other students in their groups. It is strongly recommended that at the start of each semester staff set up a communication policy within their course outlining their preferred contact methods.
Ultra self-enrol groups
Course coordinators can set up self-enrol groups for students to sign up for group assignments and activities. Staff can create the required number of groups, set the maximum amount of members per group and create an enrolment timeframe in which students can swap groups (YouTube, 4m 41s).

The filter in Ultra Gradebook allows you to speed up the entry of marks and the checking of student submissions. This video shows you how to use the filter tool for your tutorial, practical or seminar groups (YouTube, 2m 33s).
Talking to students about acknowledging and referencing AI use
UQ students are looking for guidance on how to use AI effectively and responsibly. As you support students with their assessments, explore the guides and examples on integrity and acknowledging and referencing AI on the AI Teacher Hub. You can also direct students to resources available on the AI Student Hub.
Password management – Digital Essentials module
The Digital Security module (within the Digital Essential series) introduces students to privacy issues, managing personal information, password management systems, and data breaches. The module is embedded into courses to make it more accessible for students.
Course teaching feedback surveys
With the successful rollout of the course teaching feedback system (Blue) in Semester 1, 2025, UQ achieved a sector-leading response rate of 40.07% – the highest recorded at UQ since 2015. We are now operating under business-as-usual processes from Semester 2, 2025.

- survey period I Monday 20 October – Friday 7 November 2025 (closes 11:59pm AEST)
