Overview

Tutorial, Seminar and Practical groups are transferred to Learn.UQ (Blackboard) from My Timetable (UQ's class allocation system). These groups can be allocated a discussion board by changing the settings of the entire Group Set or alternative discussion boards can be allocated to an individual group.

Access Groups

  1. From the Control Panel select Users and Groups > Groups.

Group Discussion Boards for all Tutorial/Practical/Seminar groups

  1. Click on the down arrow button next to group name in the Group Set column (eg. SI-Net Tutorials).

  1. Select Edit Group Set Properties from the drop-down list.

  1. Under Tool Availability, check the Discussion Board checkbox.​
    • Select the Allow and group members to create forums radio button.
    • Select the Do not allow student group members to create forums radio button (recommended).

  1. Click on the Submit button.

Group Discussion Boards for Individual Practical/Seminar/Tutorial groups

  1. Click on the down arrow next to the chosen group (eg. Tutorial group 01).

  1. Select Edit Group from the drop-down list.

  1. Under Tool Availability, check the Discussion Board checkbox.​
    • Select the Allow and group members to create forums radio button.
    • Select the Do not allow student group members to create forums radio button (recommended).

  1. Click on the Submit button.

Student access to Practical/Seminar/Tutorial groups

Students will have access to their Tutorial/Seminar/Practical group Discussion Board from the Course Menu under Groups. This is separate from their access to course Discussion boards for the whole class.

Teaching staff access to Practical/Seminar/Tutorial groups

  1. From the Control Panel select Discussion Board
  2. Click on the required group.

Note: A default forum will be included with the same title as the group name.

Tip: Staff can add themselves as members of the tutorial/seminar/practical groups they are teaching, so they have quick access to the relevant Discussion Boards via the Course Menu under Groups
