UQ Active Learn suite - UQpoll, UQwordcloud, UQwordstream
UQ Active Learn is a suite comprising of three applications: UQpoll, UQwordcloud, UQwordstream. These applications are used to collect student responses to a question or a series of questions posed during a lecture/tutorial. Students are able to respond with their student login and a web enabled device (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android device or other smart phones).
All UQ staff are automatically allocated an Active Learn ID and can access these applications using their UQ staff username and password.
For more information on UQ Active Learn suite refer to the In-class active learning tools guide. To receive individual help implementing one of the applications within the UQ Active Learn suite you may nominate for the eLearning Solutions Service.
Project update: UQ ePortfolio
UQ is piloting a new ePortfolio tool in some courses throughout Semester 1 2016. The selected application will be assessed against a range of criteria identified during a detailed user needs-analysis in 2015. A broader pilot will take place in Semester 2.
The project has been an in-depth collaboration between ITS and three faculties across the university. ITS involvement has ensured that the application is a technical “fit” with existing university systems and processes through integration of staging and production systems allowing for thorough technical and user testing, documentation, delivering pilot training and support, development of an operational and training plan for future deployment, and managing the procurement process.
Stakeholder involvement has been led by dedicated faculty project staff to ensure that end-user needs are at the forefront of system configuration decisions. For more information about the product itself, please visit the Chalk and Wire website.

Online marking workshops for tutors
ITS provides online marking workshops (Turnitin and Blackboard assignments) for tutors on request from course coordinators. Laptops are provided for the session and course coordinators only need to book a meeting room. New Padlet Android app
Course coordinators and students can now use Padlet from an Android phone app. Padlet is an effective in-class active learning tool that can be used to engage students and promote deeper understanding in lectures and tutorials. The tool allows teaching staff to pose questions to check students' understanding of lecture content, identify student misconceptions and facilitate discussions. Using Padlet, students can contribute to the virtual wall in a number of ways including adding text, uploading images, documents such as Word and PDF and embedding YouTube videos.
Download Padlet for Android. Nominate for the eLearning Solutions Service to receive individual help to implement Padlet.
