Ready to Teach Week – new sessions now open for registration
New sessions have just been added to the Ready to Teach Week (13–17 July) Semester 2 program! Sessions will showcase how to use data and evidence to support program leadership, explore how program and plan convenors can better communicate the impact of their work, and unpack how convenors can lead effectively in complex academic environments.

Get ready for Semester 2!
From Semester 2, Learn.UQ course sites will use the Ultra interface. To get ready to teach in Semester 2, you can:
attend a workshop or complete a self-paced module
book an eLearning adviser consultation to set up assessments and Gradebook early
update your browser on your personal device to ensure the best experience
if relevant, check the Ultra conversion of your course site(s) for completeness and accuracy
put aside extra time before Semester 2 to update your course(s).
H5P new look and feel available from 8 July
A refreshed look and feel will replace the legacy theme for H5P content from 8 July 2026. Staff and students will see this new theme applied automatically to both existing and new H5P content. The update features a purple colour scheme, along with standardised colours, contrast and spacing to deliver a more consistent and accessible user experience. Most H5P content types already support the new theme. The remaining content types are scheduled for upgrade over the coming months prior to its decommissioning later this year.
Blackboard Original retirement
Blackboard Original will be retired by the vendor on 31 December 2026. In preparation for this change, all UQ courses have been converted to Blackboard Ultra.
From January 2027, Original course sites from previous teaching periods will be available in read-only mode only. Staff and students will still be able to view content in these course sites, and staff will be able to copy content from Original courses into Ultra courses.
Course banners
Learn.UQ allows course coordinators to add a banner image to the top of each course's entry page. Banners can be used to personalise courses, helping students quickly identify the course they are in. You can choose to add an image from Unsplash or upload your own banner image.
iThenticate – text matching for research papers
The iThenticate text matching system for researchers is available to all UQ staff. While iThenticate uses the same underlying technology and database as Turnitin, the functionality, user experience and reports are designed to meet the needs of researchers.
iThenticate allows you to quickly upload, check and examine documents using a web-based interface. You can also share documents, collaborate in groups and view in-depth analytics that provide visibility of content submissions and levels of originality over time.

What’s Working? AI Assessment Transformation in Practice I 30 June 2026, 10–11am
Join presenter Associate Professor Joan Li to hear insights from an exploratory work prompted by a significant challenge in written assessment marking, which lead to an investigation of the feasibility, potential and limitations of AI in marking and feedback provision. The session will draw on staff and student survey data to explore attitudes, concerns and perceptions regarding AI’s role in assessment and feedback.

The ITaLI Educational Media Production Team works closely with academics and Learning Designers to produce educational videos, audio content, graphics and animations that support teaching and learning initiatives across UQ.
