Ultra Tips, Tricks and Gotchas

Ultra courses brings a clean and modern interface, enhanced functionality, simplified workflows, and improved accessibility all while being mobile friendly. With the changeover to Ultra courses there are a number of potential gotchas that can catch users off gaurd and cause them problems. Below are a list of tips and tricks to deal with some of these gotchas.

Some things don't seem to work correctly in my browser

It is extremely important that you keep your browser up to date when using Learn.UQ (Blackboard). Keeping your web browser up to date is crucial for both security and functionality. Outdated browsers can expose you to various security risks, including malware and phishing attacks, and may also lack the latest features and performance improvements.

The eLearning team recommends using Google Chrome when accessing Learn.UQ (Blackboard) on both PC and MAC.

Mozilla Firefox: Update Firefox to the latest release by Mozilla
Microsoft Edge: Microsoft Edge update settings by Microsoft
Safari: Update to the latest version of Safari by Apple

How do I release marks?

The process of releasing marks to students in Ultra is called "Posting". For further information on how to post marks to students, refer to the Control the release of results guide.

Warning: External assessment tools such as Turnitin, Buddycheck and Gradescope all have mechanisms built in that control the automatic Posting of marks in Gradebook. If you accidentally release marks to students before you are ready refer to the following guides.

Ensure Turnitin doesn't release marks prematurely

The Turnitin feedback release date controls the release of feedback and marks in the Turnitin assignment but also controls the posting of marks in Gradebook.

If your course is copied from a previous run of the course and you choose to reuse old Turnitin assignment links you will need to ensure that you update the Turnitin feedback release date. For further information on updating your Turnitin assignment, refer to the Edit a Turnitin assignment guide.

My course staff can't access my course

Enrolling course staff is the responsibility of the course coordinator. Course coordinator's can enrol other staff members via the class register. For further information on enrolling staff, refer to the Managing staff access to your course guide.

Warning: Student are automatically added and removed from courses according to their enrolments in SI-net, as such students should not be manually enrolled into your course site. If a student is missing from your course please log a support ticket to eLearning support.
