Turnitin online marking tool

The new Turnitin marking tool called Turnitin Feedback Studio has now replaced the previous "Classic" version. The new version offers all the normal Turnitin functionality, but with a simpler more intuitive interface. Turnitin Feedback Studio makes it faster and easier to promote academic integrity, evaluate student learning and provide feedback. For additional information refer to the Turnitin tool page.

Video conferencing with Zoom

Zoom is a multi-format video conferencing and online meeting solution available to UQ staff and students. Once you have Zoom installed on your device, you will be able to host, join, and schedule Zoom meetings, share your presentation content, and chat message with other Zoom users around the world. Zoom's simple interface and cross-platform compatibility makes it an ideal personal video conferencing solution. For additional information, refer to the Zoom video conferencing user guide.

Reusing tests and setting up Turnitin assignments

This semester the way in which Grade Centre was created has changed. Course coordinators will now need to redeploy tests and re-setup Turnitin assignments. Refer to the Deploy a test and Create a Turnitin assignment guides for step-by-step instructions.

Blackboard course archiving

All 2013 courses have now been migrated to the eLearning archive. The process of migrating 2014 courses has commenced and will be complete by 6 August. For additional information about the archive service, refer to the Course Archive webpage.

iThenticate - Text matching for research papers

The iThenticate text matching system for researchers is now available to all UQ staff. While iThenticate uses the same underlying technology and database as Turnitin, the functionality, user experience and reports are designed to meet the needs of researchers. iThenticate allows you to quickly upload, check and examine documents using a web-based interface. Researchers can share documents and collaborate in groups. iThenticate includes in-depth analytics to provide visibility of content submissions and levels of originality over time.

Refer to the Getting started with iThenticate guide for step-by-step instructions.

Staff using student accounts

If you have students teaching or tutoring in your course, you need to enrol them using their staff usernames (you may have to ask them to apply for an account). Tutors enrolled in your course using a student account will receive three notifications and after 14 days, their access to the course will be disabled. External (nk_) accounts are not an acceptable alternative for UQ staff.

Online lectures for public holidays

Producing an online eLearning module using Office Mix is a great way to replace a lecture missed due to a public holiday. This software allows you to easily add narration, webcam video, multimedia and formative quizzes to your lecture PowerPoint and embed the published module into your course.

For additional information refer to the Desktop recording tool page.

The eLearning Systems and Support team provides online marking workshops (Turnitin and Blackboard assignments) for tutors on request from course coordinators. Laptops are provided for the session and course coordinators only need to book a meeting room. Contact elearningtraining@uq.edu.au with details of the preferred date, time, room booking and approximate numbers.
