10. Create an inline choice question with PDF panel

An inline choice question requires students to select the correct option from a list of alternatives to fill in a blank. You can add multiple blanks in a question.

PDF panel is a PDF attached to a question on the left side and it is the reference material for students in answering the question. Please download the PDF file (PDF, 705.9 KB) to use for this question.

Tasks to complete

Create an inline choice question with PDF panel

  1. Click on the Create New button.
  2. Select Inline choice under the Automatically marked questions list.
  3. Enter "Animal emblems" into the New Question textbox.
  4. In the question text area, delete Replace with question text [Alternative 1] and enter the following paragraph:

"Red kangaroo is the mammal emblem of [leave a blank here]. Platypus is the mammal emblem of [leave a blank here]. Koala is the mammal emblem of [leave a blank here]."

  1. Navigate to the first blank.
  2. Click on the Insert button. An interaction element is added to the blank.
  3. Repeat Step 5 for the other two blanks.

Add the alternatives

  1. Click on the Alternative 1 textbox.
  2. Enter:
  • Northern Territory on the Alternative 1 textbox. The green radio button has been selected for the correct answer by default.
  • Tasmania on the Alternative 2 textbox.
  • New South Wales on the Alternative 3 textbox.
  • Queensland on the Alternative 4 textbox.
  1. Repeat Steps 8 & 9 for the other two blanks.
  2. The correct answer for blank 2 is New South Wales.
  3. The correct answer for blank 3 is Queensland.
  4. Click on the Option button. 
  • Normally, you would not need to enter the lower or the upper mark limit.
  • The randomization has been selected by default.
  1. Click on the Close button.
  2. Click on the Marks button. By default,
  • Marks per correct answer is 1,
  • Marks per wrong answer is 0
  • Marks for unanswered is 0
  • Marks for all correct is blank
  • Minimum marks is blank

Note: For inline choice questions, you will only need to adjust the Marks per correct answer as required.

Add PDF panel

  1. Please download the PDF file (PDF, 705.9 KB) to use for this question if you have not yet downloaded it.
  2. Click on the PDF panel button from the text editor area.
  3. Click on the Upload PDF button.
  4. Click on the Browse button.
  5. Select the Australian Cardiovascular Risk ChartNote: You have downloaded this PDF in the previous task.
  6. Click on the Open button.
  7. Click on the Insert button.

Add labels

  1. Click on the Labels button on the right, enter "your name", "test name", "Australian emblem animals and click on the plus button.

Note: Labels are useful for the author (e.g. course coordinator) to find the questions for future use.

  1. Click on the Preview button. The preview will be opened to a new tab on your browser.
  2. Close the preview window.
  3. Click on the Save button.
  4. Click on the Close button.
