Embed a YouTube video (YouTube, 1m 35s)

Overview

YouTube videos can be embedded into your course without the need to copy and paste code. You can either insert the video directly into a content area or insert it anywhere there is a Text Editor (Announcements, Discussion Boards, Blogs, Journals, Wikis, Assignments and Tests).

Access YouTube

There are two methods for embedding YouTube content:

Content Area

  1. Open the content area (i.e. Learning Resources or Assessment) where you need to embed a video. If needed, open the appropriate folder or learning module.
  2. Click on the Build Content button.
  3. Select YouTube video from the menu.

  1. Enter in the search bar the title of your YouTube video or the YouTube URL e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ.
  2. Click on the Go button.
  3. Locate your video and click on the Select button.

  1. Optionally, you can edit the title in Name textbox.
  2. Optionally, provide details of the video in the Description textbox.
  3. In the View option, select Embed Video from the drop-down menu.

  1. Optionally, select the Yes radio button the setting Show YouTube URL.
  2. Select the Yes radio button for the setting Show YouTube information.
  3. Optionally, if you want students to view the video, select the Yes radio button for the setting Permit Users to View this Content.
  4. Optionally, if you want to know how many times the video is viewed, select the Yes button for the setting Track Number of Views.
  5. Optionally, select the Display After checkbox and enter the date using the Date Selection Calendar and enter the time using the Time Selection Menu.
  6. Optionally, select the Display Until checkbox and enter the date using the Date Selection Calendar and enter the time using the Time Selection Menu.
  7. Click on the Submit button.

Note: The videos are external web content, so your students will need to login to the UQ quota management system to view the video on campus

Text Editor

  1. Create either:
    • An announcement
    • Content item
    • Discussion Board
    • Blog
    • Journal
    • Wiki
    • An assignment
  2. In the Text Editor, click on the Add Content button.

  1. Select YouTube Video.

  1. Enter in the search bar the title of your YouTube video or the YouTube URL e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ.
  2. Click on the Go button.
  3. Locate your video and click on the Select button.
