Staff working on student accounts

Current students and Alumni who are teaching/tutoring in your course must be enrolled using their staff username. Staff enrolled in your course using a student account will receive two warning notifications and after 14 days, they will receive a final notification advising their access has been disabled. Refer to the Enrol teaching and administration staff guide for step-by-step instructions.

Active learning with UQpoll, UQwordcloud and UQwordstream

UQ Active Learn is a suite comprising of three applications: UQpoll, UQwordcloud and UQwordstream. These tools can be used to engage students and promote deeper understanding in lectures and tutorials. They allow teaching staff to collect and immediately display student responses to questions. These tools can also be used to check students' understanding of lecture content, identify student misconceptions and facilitate discussions.

Students are able to respond with their student login and a web enabled device (PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android device or other smart phones). All UQ staff are automatically allocated an Active Learn ID and can access these applications using their UQ staff username and password.

For additional information, refer to the In-class active learning tool webpage. If you would like a personal tutorial on using Active learning tools email help@learn.uq.edu.au with "ELSS - Nomination" in the subject line.

Responseware update

Due to a change in the licencing agreement and a software update, staff planning to use TurningPoint ResponseWare with student mobile devices in 2017 will need to:

  1. Update their software to TurningPoint Cloud 7
    (do not update to TP8).
  2. Create a new Turning Technologies account.
  3. Log a job with help@learn.uq.edu.au to have your account added to the UQ licence.
  4. When using the software ensure you select the region South Asia if prompted.
  5. Inform students of the new web address for their responses: responsewaresg.net

Refer to the Updating to TurningPoint Cloud (TP7) guide for step-by-step instructions.

Interpreting Turnitin Similarity Reports

Did you miss the Turnitin webinar on How to Interpret a Turnitin Similarity Report? If so, you can watch the webinar now by visiting the Turnitin website.

Open Course Scheme

Be inspired. Visit a class in the Open Course Scheme to see your colleagues in action and witness some of the great teaching that happens within UQ. A selection of courses have been opened for you to observe. Book a visit to see what others do well or pick up new ideas. Observe different strategies and re-discover old favourites as you reflect on your own teaching methodology. For further information refer to the Open Course Scheme webpage or contact Peter Rutherford.

Turnitin - Roster sync

Turnitin assignments only contain the students who were in your course when the assignment was created. If more students have enrolled since you created your assignment, you will need to update the class list so those students can submit their assignments. The Roster Sync function allows you to update your class list.  Refer to the Roster Sync guide for step-by-step instructions.

Online marking workshop for Tutors

The eLearning Systems and Support team provide online marking workshops (Turnitin and Blackboard assignments) for tutors on request from course coordinators. Laptops are provided for the session and course coordinators only need to book a meeting room. Contact elearningtraining@uq.edu.au with details of the preferred date, time, room booking and approximate numbers.

Online lectures for public holidays

Producing an online eLearning module using Office Mix is a great way to replace a lecture missed due to a public holiday. This software allows you to easily add narration, webcam video, multimedia and formative quizzes to your lecture PowerPoint and embed the published module into your course.

For additional information refer to the Desktop recording tool page.
