What is Blackboard Ultra Tests?

Tests functionality is the tool within Blackboard Ultra for creating online quizzes, tests, and exams, allowing instructors to create various question types and manage assessments with flexible grading.

Creating a new test

The steps involved in creating a test are:

  • create a test
  • add content to a test
  • review test settings
  • set test availability.

Instructors can use a range of question types, including multiple-choice, true/false, matching, short answer, essay, and more. Instructors can also utilise a Question Bank to store and organise questions, which can be reused across multiple assessments.

If required, tests can be adited at later time before students have accessed the assessment or made their submission.

Test customisation

Both, questions and answers, can be randomised to support practice activities and strengthened academic integrity. The question pool can also be added to customise test for each student.

  • Refer to the Reuse questions and randomisation guide for for further information.

Edit questions

Questions can be adited or deleted at later time before students have accessed the assessment or made their submission.

  • Refer to the Edit a test guide for for further information.

Tests settings and visibility

Tests can be set up for asynchronous learning, with automatic feedback and custom marking schemes. Instructors can customise tests with time limits, grading rubrics, goals, and standards. They can also use test outcomes to control the release of course content, meaning students might only see certain materials after achieving a specific score on a test.

Mark tests

Ultra Tests support both automatic grading for certain question types (Auto-marked question types) and manual grading for others, like essay questions (Manually-marked question types), where grading workflow allows instructors to easily mark by student or by question. Once these questions are marked, the total test mark will be automatically calculated and stored in Gradebook.

  • Refer to the Mark tests guides for further information.
