Overview
Staff are encouraged to request Learn.UQ (Blackboard) and/or edX (Edge) courses for the next Semester as soon as possible. This ensures that the creation of your course is not delayed due to peak demand during O-week and Week 1 of semester.
How do I obtain a Learn.UQ (Blackboard) and/or edX (Edge) course for next semester?
- Submit your ECP (Electronic Course Profile), a blank Blackboard course will be created for you within approximately 2 days.
- Submit a request using the Course/Organisation Site Request Forms link found on the Learn.UQ (Blackboard) Staff tab.
Note: This form also allows you to request that content from an old course is copied into your new course and that courses are combined.
3. In some schools and faculties your course will be requested for you. Professional staff put in a bulk request for all required courses.
Request a new course
- From the Course/Organisation Site Request Form click on New button.
- Type in your Course Code in the Course Code field.
- Select the required Semester of your Course from the Semester drop down.
- Click on the Search button.
- Click on the code of your required site under the Sites Found.
- Provide the instructor’s UQ username.
- Optionally, if you wish to add another person to your course, provide their UQ Username and Course Role i.e Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Course Builder.
- If you require the students from other courses to be enrolled into this site, please include the course code, campus/s of registration and starting semester of each course.
- If necessary, in Other Requirements, provide the instruction "EdX (Edge) copy required".
- Click on the Submit button.
Copy content from a Previous Course
- You can copy course content from an old course into your new course yourself if you are an Instructor/Teaching Assistant in both courses (refer to the Course copy guide). OR
- You can request ITS copy over the content for using the Course/Community Site Request Form.
- Put in your Course Code in the Course Code field.
- Select the required Semester of your course from the Semester drop down.
- Click on the Search button.
- Click on the code of your required site under the Sites Found.
- Select the previous semester of the course that you wish to copy from the dropdown list.
- Provide the instructor’s UQ username.
- Optionally, if you wish to add another person to your course, provide their UQ Username and Course Role i.e Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Course Builder.
- If you require the students from other courses to be enrolled into this site, please include the course code, campus/s of registration and starting semester of each course.
- If necessary, in Other Requirements, provide the instruction "EdX (Edge) copy required".
- Click on the Submit button.
Combining Content
If you wish combine courses with different populations (undergraduate/postgraduate), or different campuses (St Lucia/Ipswich/Gatton/Herston/External) you must include this request in the Course/Community Site Request Form. To ensure the correct courses are combined you need include the full course codes of all courses to be combined (i.e. ENG7020S_6260STx) in the Course Enrolments section.
Note: You must request that courses are combined every semester. Courses will NOT be automatically combined just because this was requested in previous semesters.
Renaming of courses with different populations
ECON7360S_6260STx enrolments added to ECON3360S_6260STx creates the following combined site:
[ECON3360/7360] Applied Econometrics for Microeconomics (St Lucia). Semester 2, 2011
Renaming of courses at multiple locations
MGTS1960S_6260GAx enrolments added to MGTS1960S_6260EXx creates the following combined site:
[MGTS1960/7979] Business Management I (Gatton and External). Semester 2, 2012
Renaming of courses with combined populations and locations
ENVM3504S_6260GAx, ENVM3504S_6260STx, ENVM7504S_6260EXx and ENVM7504S_6260STx enrolments all added into ENVM3504S_6260EXx creates the following combined course: “
[ENVM3504/7504] Environment, Sustainability and Ecotourism (St Lucia, Gatton and External). Semester 2, 2012
