Add a Course banner (Ultra) - eLearning - University of Queensland

Course coordinators are welcome to make a tailored banner for their Ultra course. There are three options.

Use the ITaLI banner generator tool to make a Course Code banner.
Add a banner image from Unsplash within Ultra.
Add a banner image from your own library.

Below is the default banner provided by the Ultra course template.

Course Code banner

Go to the ITaLI banner generator tool site
Enter the course code(s) into the Course code textbox (e.g. “ELSS1234” or “ELSS1234 ELSS2345” for merged courses).

Click on the Download banner button and save the image on your desktop.
Within the Ultra course, click on the pencil icon on the existing banner. Alternatively, click on Course Image - Edit Display settings.

For step-by-step instructions, refer to the Blackboard guide. Pay attention to the following steps.

Uncheck the Mark the image as decorative checkbox.
Click in the Alternative text textbox. Enter suitable text e.g. ELSS1234 course banner.

Toggle the Course banner to On.
Make sure the Course Card Image is On.
Click the Save button.

Unsplash in Ultra

Click on the pencil icon on the existing banner. Alternatively, click on Course Image - Edit Display settings.
In the Display Settings panel, click on the picture icon.
Select Stock images from Unsplash from the Insert image options.
Use the search function to find a suitable image. Use the recommended dimensions of 1200 x 240 pixels to make your choice.

Click the Next button.
Use the Click and drag function to position the visible area of the banner.

Check the Mark the image as decorative checkbox.
Toggle the Course banner to On.
Make sure the Course Card Image is On.
Click the Save button.

Your own image

Recommended photo libraries used at UQ are the Digital Asset Manager and Adobe Stock.

If you have a preferred image for your site, the vendor recommendations are:

“For banners, the recommended visible width ranges from 950 to 1200 pixels. The recommended visible height ranges from 150 to 240 pixels.”

Click on the pencil icon on the existing banner. Alternatively, click on Course Image - Edit Display settings.
In the Display Settings panel, click on the picture icon.
Select Upload from Device from the Insert image options.
Choose your image from your files area. Click the Open button in your files area.
Click the Next button.
Use the Click and drag function to position the visible area of the banner.

Check the Mark the image as decorative checkbox.
Toggle the Course banner to On.
Make sure the Course Card Image is On.
Click the Save button.
