FAQs Learn.UQ (Blackboard) Welcome Page Update

  1. Home
  2. Projects

Can 'Ultra Base Navigation' be switched on for specific courses?

No, 'Ultra Base Navigation' is a change to the common Welcome page used by all staff and students.

Will there be any changes to course functionality?

No, switching on 'Ultra Base Navigation’ will only affect the Welcome Page interface and navigation.

Is UQ moving to Ultra Courses?

No, there has been no decision made to move to Blackboard Ultra Courses. Switching on 'Ultra Base Navigation' does though provide UQ with the technical option to trial 'Ultra Course View'.

Will there be 'more clicks' to access my courses?

No, UQ will set the 'Courses' page to be the landing page for 'Ultra Base Navigation'. There will be improved functionality to search for and filter courses.

Will there be an outage?

No, enabling 'Ultra Base Navigation' only requires an administration setting to be switched on.

Can I open direct course links?

Yes, though the course will display with the course menu but no access to the Welcome page menu.

Can I open multiple courses in new tabs?

It is not possible to right click and open courses in a new tab from the Courses page.

To open multiple courses in a new tab:

  1. Click on the required course in the Courses page.
  2. From the Course Menu, right click on a menu it (Announcements / Learning Resources / Assessment)
  3. Select Open in new tab.
  4. Close the course in the original tab.
  5. Repeat the above steps for each course you need to open.

Is it possible to not group Blackboard organisation sites by the semester they were first created?

No, but is possible to update the semester in which the Organisation is displayed. Either log a job with help@elearning.uq.edu.au and advise the semester / term the site is intended for or note this when requesting a site copy.

Alternatively you could set the Organisation to have a CPD term date which is not semester specific and runs from the 1 January to 31 December. An additional alternative is to select the "Other" as the term, you will need to include this instruction when you order your Organisational site.

Note that non-standard course sites or Organisation sites have maximum duration of 12 monthers before a copy needs to be requested.

Where do I request my Learn.UQ (Blackboard) and UQ Extend course sites?

The Site requests forms link will be available from the Institution Page. The Course requests guide will be update on the 21 November 2022.

Can the 'Marks' page be renamed as not all course give numerical marks?

No. The naming of pages is based on the language pack selected by UQ. UQ has selected to use the UK language pack that names pages "Courses" and "Marks" and uses UK spelling.

The alternatives that were considered were the Australian language pack that names pages "Subjects" and "Grades" with UK spelling and the US langague pack that name pages "Courses" and "Grades" but uses US spelling. The Uk language pack was determined to be the best option for UQ.

What are the differences with the filter options in the Courses page?

Open: refers to available courses.

Private: refers to unavailable courses.

Complete: Refers to Read Only Ultra courses. (Ultra courses are not available at UQ)
