What is a Rubric?

A Rubric is a tool that lists evaluation criteria for an assessment task. They may also be called a Marking Schema or RCA.

Why would I use a Rubric?

Rubrics can help students organise their efforts to meet the requirements of an assessment task. Markers can use Rubrics to explain their evaluations to students. Using a Blackboard Rubric allows you to mark assessment tasks online and return results to students online (using My Grades). Blackboard rubrics can be used to mark discussion boards, blogs, journals, wikis and Blackboard assignments. A rubric can also be added to a Grade Centre column to return other assessment results i.e. Oral results.

Warning: A rubric created using the Blackboard rubric tool is not compatible with Turnitin. For information on Turnitin rubric's, refer to the Turnitin rubric guides.
