Discussion Boards (Ultra Student)

Your instructor may use 'post first boards' to ensure that responses to the question under discussion are your own ideas, analysis and reflections before being influenced by the work of others.

Post first discussion boards:

• require students to create a post before they can see responses from other students
• are often used when the discussion is being marked.

Click into the Type a response text box to create a post on a post first discussion board. Other users' posts will be visible once your post is published.

Do not use any form of electronic communication, including email or discussion boards, to attack members of staff or fellow students:

• Use of the University network is subject to the UQ Information and Communication Technology Policy and Acceptable Use of UQ ICT Resources guidelines.
• Your posts may or may not be anonymous.
• You may not be able to edit or delete the messages.

1. Make the subject heading specific to the content so that readers can establish if the content is relevant to them. Subjects like "Hi" and "Help me!" are generic and can be frustrating.
2. Message content should be relevant to the subject of the discussion board. People will appreciate you staying on point.
3. The Learn.UQ text editor contains tools to help you format your content. Make sure your text is easy to read and well-formatted. You can also insert hyperlinks, documents, images and videos into discussion board posts. Refer to the Insert and embed content and Insert media guides for more information.

You can follow a discussion to get notifications every time there is new activity from instructors or students in a specific discussion.

1. Access the required discussion board.
2. Click on the Follow (bell icon) button.
   
   
   Note: Click on the notification settings link to customise how you will receive notifications in your Activity stream, by email and in the Blackboard app.
