You are able to upload files (such as word documents and PDFs) to your edX (Edge) course and embed or link to them within a unit for students to view and download.

Warning: Prior to adding or editing content in your course, you will need to access Studio view. Refer to the Change from Student View to Staff Editing View guide for further instructions.

Upload a file

  1. Access your edX (Edge) course within Studio. For step-by-step instructions, refer to the Access edX (Edge) guide.
  2. From the Content menu, select Files & Uploads from the drop-down list.

  1. Click on the Browse your computer button.

Tip: You can also drag and drop the file directly into the Drag and Drop section of the window.

  1. Browse for and select the required file from your computer.
  2. Once the required file has been selected, click on the Open button.
  3. The file will appear in the table once it has been successfully uploaded.

  1. For the required file, click on the Studio button.

  1. The button will change to Copied to indicate the Studio URL has been successfully copied.

Embed a file

  1. Navigate to the unit within the course where you want the file to be embedded.
  2. Click on the HTML button.

  1. Click on Raw HTML.

  1. Click on Edit.

  1. Delete the template code.

  1. Paste the file URL you previously copied on line 1

  1. Paste the following HTML code on line 2:
    <p><embed src="PASTE URL HERE" width="100%" height="780" internalinstanceid="44" title="" /></p>

  1. Cut the file URL on line 1
  2. Paste the file URL in place of PASTE URL HERE in line 2.
  3. Click on the Save button.

  1. The file will then be embedded within the page.

Link to a file

  1. Navigate to the unit within the course where you want the file to be linked.
  2. Click on the HTML button.

  1. Click on Text.

  1. Click on the Insert/edit link icon.

  1. Paste the Studio URL in the URL textbox.
  2. Enter text in the Text to display textbox.

  1. Select New Window from the Target drop-down menu.
  2. Click on the OK button.

  1. Click on the Save button.

  1. The file link will then be displayed within the page.
