Create a Drag and Drop Problem (Question)
Create Problem
Warning: Prior to adding or editing content in your course you will need to access Studio view. Refer to the Change from Student View to Staff Editing (Studio) View guide for further instructions.
Basic Settings
- In your unit, click on the Problem button.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Click on Drag and Drop.
- Click on Edit.
- Enter the question in the Title textbox e.g. Arrange the following planets to which sector of the Solar System they belong to.
- Select Standard from the Mode drop-down menu.
- Enter the number of points each problem is worth in the Problem Weight textbox.
- Enter the question in the Problem text textbox. e.g. Arrange the following planets to which sector of the Solar System they belong to.
- Enter feedback in the Introductory feedback and Final feedback text boxes.
- Click on the Continue button.
Zones
- Select the Generate image automatically radio button for the setting Background Image.
- Enter the required number of columns and rows in the Zone Layout textboxes. e.g. 1 x 2.
- Enter the zone size in the Zone Size text boxes. e.g. 500 x 200.
Note: The Zone Size is measured in pixels.
- Click on the Generate image and zones button.
- Enter a description in the Background description textbox. e.g. Two rectangles of similar size and height, one on top of the other.
- Check the Display label names on the image checkbox for the setting Zone labels.
- Check the Display zone borders on the image checkbox for the setting Zone borders.
- Enter a title for the zone in the Title textbox. e.g. Inner Solar System.
- Enter a description for the zone in the Description textbox. e.g. Use this zone to associate the appropriate item to it.
- Enter the width size in the width textbox. e.g. 500.
- Enter the height size in the height textbox. e.g. 200.
- Optionally, enter the appropriate starting point of the zone in the x and y textboxes.
Note: The starting point of the zone refers to the bottom left corner.
- Optionally, select the required alignment from the Alignment drop-down list.
- If you require more zones, click on the + Add a zone button.
Note: When creating additional zones, you must complete Steps 5 to 13.
Note: The + Add a zone button is obscured due to the edX (Edge)'s bottom bar and might require zooming in or out of the page to view it.
- Optionally, click on the x icon to delete a zone.
- Click on the Continue button.
Items
- Optionally, enter the colour or the HTML color name in the Item background color textbox. e.g. blue or #0101DF.
- Optionally, enter the colour or the HTML color name in the Item text color textbox. e.g. white or #ffffff.
- Optionally, enter the number of maximum items in the Maximum items per zone textbox.
- Enter a name to appear on each item in the Text textbox. e.g. Mercury.
Note: If you would like to randomise your items, they must be input manually in that order as the options do not randomise for students.
- Check the checkbox for the required zone the item belongs for the setting Zones.
Note: You can use an image instead of text by optionally entering an image URL for the Image URL (alternative to the text) textbox and a description of the image in the Image description (should provide sufficient information to place the item even if the image did not load) textbox.
- Enter correct feedback in each Success feedback textbox appropriate to the item. e.g. Correct! This one belongs to Inner Solar System.
- Enter incorrect feedback in each Error feedback textbox appropriate to the item. e.g. No, this item does not belong here. Try again.
- Repeat Steps 4 to 7 for the remaining items.
- Optionally, click on the + Add an item button to add more items then repeat Steps 4 to 7.
Note: The + Add an item button is obscured due to the edX (Edge)'s bottom bar and might require zooming in or out of the page to view it.
Optional settings for items
- If you had an item that belongs to a series of zones, check the checkboxes for the required zones for the setting Zones.
- Conversely, if you had an item that belongs to no zones, leave the checkboxes unchecked for the required zones for the setting Zones.
Note: Ensure you enter feedback in the Success feedback and Error feedback textboxes.
- Click on the Save button.
Completed Question
Delete
- To delete the component, click on the bin icon.
- Click on the Yes, delete this component button.
